SERMON OUTLINE > 8/9/15-How to pray in seasons of darkness (Pt 2.)
8/9/15-How to pray in seasons of darkness (Pt 2.)

God’s invitation to greater intimacy with and accessibility to Him.

Darkness…….
•   The darkness of God’s apparent ABSENCE.
>The Psalm teaches us:
...To speak what you FEEL to God.
...To bring it ALL—your full range of emotion, anger, grief, and despair to God.
...That when you ENGAGE God you declare your confidence in Him.

•   The darkness of SELF-CONTEMPT.
>Self-contempt turns our circumstances back on us, because we don’t believe God could HANDLE our turning them back on Him.
>God challenges us to transition from self-contempt to TRUSTING God.
>Confession is not about our unworthiness but our WORTH.

•   The darkness of complete VULNERABILITY.
>The learning process of getting to the place of praise and trust goes through our times of darkness and PAIN.
>You don’t get to the place of praise and trust intellectually, you get there by GOING WITH God.
>You get to the place of praise and trust by giving God what is going on in your life in a brutally HONEST way.

•   A dark, strange ILLUMINATION.
>The God in the Bible is a God with whom we WRESTLE and engage in real relationship.

The invitation……
•   Trust that when you go down into darkness God will BE THERE.
•   Trust that when you engage God, you will come out
knowing He is BIGGER than you have ever known Him to be.
